Sending

The old hymn goes like this:

God sent His Son.
They called Him Jesus.
He came to love,
Heal and forgive.
He bled and died
to buy my pardon.
And life is worth the living
Just because He lives.

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemene the night before He was crucified:

“In the same way that You gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.”
(John 17:18, the Message)

Jesus comforted and commissioned His followers in John 20:21 (HCSB) with this:

“Peace to you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”

The One we say we follow was sent and now sends us. The Gospel of John uses the word “sent” almost 40 times. First Baptist Church gathers to send on Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights. We try to equip our church family to live sent in their daily rhythms and everyday relationships. We also hope to send to help start new churches as well as to renew existing churches.
